New Children's Guide to Plastic Surgery

Have heard about and someone told me this morning on the 'Today' show or GMA, they had a review of a new children's book...a guide to a mommy makeover, etc. The purpose is to educate the children of mother's getting various cosmetic surgery procedures, i.e. breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tucks, mommy makeovers, facelifts, etc.

Apparently it was the third story in the 1st hour. Right after the war and gas prices (economy). What's the next natural progression...cosmetic surgery of course.

I've read a review in the plastic surgery trade journals and it sounds fairly balanced and logical. Have to admire the author's marketing people who were able to secure those 5-10 minutes on a major national news show. It's hard to buy that publicity.

Like I always say, plastic surgeons want their patients to be as educated as possible as to what to expect.

Spring is hopping.

It's Friday afternoon and I am worn out and ready for the weekend. TGIF. We have been really busy the last few weeks and the Imaage staff is doing a great job but I need a little R&R. Seems like we've been doing lots of combination procedures (breast augmentations, breast lifts, tummy tucks, facelifts, and tons of liposuction). This time of year is usually very busy, the patients have been doing very well, and it's been really fun.

Seems like winter was terrible and spring was cold and I love it when I see a post-op breast augmentation smiling with her new body and knowing this summer will be great for her.

I'm convinced this is the perfect job for me. Who wouldn't love it?

Now I remember why I don't like going to the hospital.

Went to the hospital every day this week. Had two patients that had significant medical problems that wanted cosmetic surgery, so I felt it was prudent to do these patients in a hospital setting with all the various specialists on hand.

Now I remember...and I am not bashing the hospital, but it is very impersonal vs my office surgery suite, takes forever to get the surgery started, the recovery room is chaotic, and then the patient-care floor has no idea what to do with a cosmetic surgery patient. Having said that, the care they received was very good, but I'm still so happy, and more importantly, my patients are too, to have their surgery in our office. The procedures were pretty standard liposuction and skin removal...things we do all the time in our office. I've considered doing patients with diabetes in the office but have not done so yet. Would require a significant investment in monitoring equipment, and of course my insurance carrier may have a cow.

Anyway, everyone did fine and I looked forward to not having to go back to the hospital for some time.

One and done

Was talking to Erica, our Aesthetician, who expressed that lots of our patients getting VelaShape are still asking about Lipo-Dissolve.

Here we go again for those not paying attention: Lipo-Dissolve, or anything else that has a similar name, is a series of multiple injections...as in hundreds of injections multiple times over a few weeks to months to get minimal if any result to 'melt' fat.

Liposuction is one and done. Yes it is surgery. Yes it has risks...very small and probably not statistically worse than driving on the Waterson. But the thing is, Liposuction WORKS. You will have a huge improvement. You will be a little sore for a few days vs weeks or months of soreness with Lipo-Dissolve.

Lipo-Dissolve has capitalized on the public's fear of 'surgery' and promises things too good to be true. Guess what...it ain't.

Make sure anyone who does anything cosmetic to your body is a BOARD CERTIFIED PLASTIC SURGEON...not a Dermatologist, not an Anesthesiologist, not a family practice doctor, or you OB/GYN who have taken weekend courses and call themselves board certified cosmetic surgeons (small case on purpose).
