We have really picked up in the last few weeks. Wish I knew why...the staff is on top of things like always, maybe it's the election?. Certainly not the stock market. The cosmetic surgery business is suddenly booming. We're still getting slightly less phone call inquiries than normal but our conversion rate to surgery (breast augmentaion, liposuction, tummy tucks, facelifts, etc), is higher than it has ever been. Less sorta-interested window-shoppers, more serious want-to-schedule-yesterday patients.
The non-surgical skin care side (vela-shape, reFirm, IPL treatments, etc) is doing fine - Erica does a great job. So I've more than the usual reasons to give Thanks today. Fingers crossed - hope it keeps up.

In the past few days I've seen a few patients who are asking very technical questions about their cosmetic surgery (breast augmentations, liposuction, tummy tuck, facelift, mommy makeover, etc). I immediately know that they have done either a lot of research on line and in the usual beauty magazines, or, more to the point, have been to multiple consults. Bingo - these patients all tell me 'you are the 5th doctor I've seen'. My reaction to that is 'what is the problem here'...I know the web and Cosmo recommend seeing at least 3 doctors but most patients don't. They may see 2 but any more than that is a little odd. First of all, new patients spend about 2-3 hours here, in addition to the $50 consult fee, so they usually are comfortable with us and want us to do their procedure...and they don't have the time to go 5 consults. That would be an investment of 10-15 hours, not to mention money. Could just be another odd phenomenon of this economy.

Wow...how much lower can the stock market go? How many huge industry bail-outs can the government (us) afford? Where should Imaage go to get in line for the cash? Just kidding.
We have had a slow year but the next few months look pretty busy. The winter things usually start picking up again as people realize the next season is body-exposure time...time to consider tummy tucks, mommy makeovers, breast augmentation, liposuction, etc.
This economy is presenting so many opportunities for investments if you have the cash. I say cash because no bank is doing any loaning. Here at Imaage we are running the best promotions ever and it is definitely helping keep our volume up.
Maybe over-eating at Thanksgiving will bring in some more lipo.

WLKY has been promoting a feature on a local gentleman who weighs, or used to weigh, 500 lbs. Apparently he had his large abdominal panniculus (an apron of skin and fat hanging off someone's tummy) removed through the residency program at the University of Louisville.
They have asked me to participate in a call-in taking questions from the viewers about this situation. I deal with this frequently at Imaage and it truly is a life-altering and life-improving event. There is no other way besides surgery to remove this hanging piece of flesh that gets in the way of everything...and I mean everything.
These procedures are becoming more common as more people are having weight-loss surgery and then removing excess skin from their arms (brachioplasty), thighs (thighplasty), breast lifts with augmentation, abdomen (tummy tucks), etc.

Watching the tube tonight with the usual talking heads. Not to get into a political debate, but you have to admit this is a very historical election. This certainly is not a boring time to live. Who knows what's going to happen with our economy and our country, but I'm going to work in the morning, and plan on doing that every morning.
I don't think the market will disappear for plastic surgery. I know that I feel a lot better paying $50 for a tank of gas instead of $100...and that's got to free up discretionary income for breast augmentations, liposuction, tummy tucks, mommy makeover, facelifts, any kind of cosmetic surgery. Today was very busy in the office and though phone inquiries are down compared to other years, out conversion rates are way up. Of course I think our staff is excellent and that helps too.
Anyway, back to the talking heads.
